Ravenous: As processed foods get rare/expensive how do you feed your pets?

Pet foods are very industrial products that rely on chep grains and meats and without that we'll have to find new ways to feed our campanion animals.

We have 5 cats, a dog and a small flock of chickens. We can still get chicken feed, but we're trying to cut down by feeding mostly table scraps and kitchen waste. We're not so bad off that we can't afford the monthly cat and dog food bill, but we are worried about the safety and affordability of their food into the future.

Are you crazy? Feed the cats to the dog! Then eat the dog. You're clearly not suffering enough in this crisis.

There are some of us in areas that aren't quite at the survival level yet. Goods and services move quite well here. Prices are going up, some stocks are scarce, but overall since I have a reasonable income I can get what I need. I'm sure others are in the same boat. I'm sorry you've had to eat your pets, but I'm not there yet and I'm hoping to never be there.

Here's a little update on how we're dealing with the animals. The dog is getting a lot of eggs from the chickens. At least one per day. The cat's are all allowed outside and can do a good bit of foraging on their own. We're still buying pet food even though the prices are getting pretty silly. If it gets much more expensive the dog will be on a local wheat/rice and eggs diet and the cats will end up cut back further on their commercial food. I do't know of any ways to feed cats on anything other then meat which is pretty expensive. Maybe talk to the local chicken processors for their byproducts they wouldn't sell to people?
