That the editing is removed in this case is pretty annoying btw.

Whoo. There it is. I've been waiting for this one. Do you have an offsite blog to put this one in, where people don't have to read it as wall of text? If not, I'll gladly repost it to my blog and give you full credit.

You assert that "Without using modern production methods in the western world it is impossible to feed all people in the western world" but what's the evidence? To the contrary, for over a decade we've had studies showing that sustainable agriculture, at small or large scale, equals industrial in good conditions, and exceeds it in poor conditions such as drought -- and this is without anywhere near the level of research and investment industrial agriculture has benefited from over the last 70 years.

My biggest objection to this is the assumption of governmental controls. The idea that the government's suddenly going to put in place population controls, throw off corporate control, limit people's consumption rates, and raise taxes on the rich is quite frankly farcical. It is just not going to happen. The US government is on the wrong side of these problems - for god's sake, they've arrested GEAS. If we want to limit population growth and consumption levels, we're going to have to find ways to do it ourselves.
