    OutlawPlanet: Revolutionary implementation of HUDs

We will see fast and fundamental change on how we use computers

A PC monitor uses too much energy. The bigger the get the more they'll use. Computer industries are drooling to grow bigger and there is massive industrial push to sell better computers and devices. My guess is very soon, probably between 2010 and 2015 we will see a sweeping move from desktop screens to wearable displays, almost certainly moving to augmented reality devices within years. From the moment these are implemented people will leave the office, working anywhere they like. Wearables will quickly become smaller, evaporating into almost invisible (contact lenses) beyond 2022. This will change information industries almost overnight, and will explode individual human creativity. Better - it will reduce commuting to a HUGE extend. Politicians will (should) give tax incentives to these developments.

Yeah, the trend started in 2011, when people started producing video-glasses as peripherals for watching movies on your Asus Eeepc

Given the problems and recent recall of augmented reality glasses, I think we\\\'re going to see slower adoption then you might think. Smaller screens, OLEDs, and epaper displays are a major part of our computer infrastructure now, and mitigate many of our power needs. As long as AR tools are griefable, wearable computing is going to suffer a backlash in the public eye.

I agree with Ruud. If the computers grow larger, as each system will ultimatly have larger and faster capabilities, they will tend to draw more power. It is for this reason, that the human race, must focus on power-friendly devices. It is for this reason, that cars are becoming electric and energy wars are occuring. I disagree; however, that they will become contact lenses. If they were to become this small, where would the central processer be. Unless there is a cord coming out of each eye, or they are wireless, it would be almost impossible to create such technology. They will probably become glasses, or head mounted units.

I\\\'m a game designer, and I\\\'ve seen the ups and downs of this technology. A lot of people are still somewhat paranoid of having a computer inside their head; the visible chaos generated by computers (we know it\\\'s ultimately generated by humans, but impression is everything to the technically inept), people still feel comfortable with a certain degree of distance and freedom from the equipment. As far as monitor consumption, there have been recent advancements in technology that allow for higher resolution and lower resource cost, but as is the case with all new technologies it\\\'s pricing itself out of being competitive.

WRT comfort of using wearables or things in our brains, perhaps we\\\'re overlooking the generational changes as adaptive mechanisms. Like drugs used to calm some people\\\'s minds (resulting in a happier or more stable life), certain interfaces are likely to be more adaptable, and thus acceptible or even desirable. Technology interfaces: a new drug?
