Today on the Farm

From nothing to bounty.
lisa_anne

I woke up early this morning. Frank, one of the roosters, was going on about something and he decided it was necessary to share with the rest of us. I tried to close my eyes again, but Frank wasn't having it. I went outside to see what was going on.

In the Spring I helped a little boy named Pauolo plant his first tomato plants. He was so excited you could see it in his twinkling eyes. He was curious when I showed him the seeds we were using, beggars can't be choosers you know, but he had faith. Everyday he came by to see his plants, take care of them. All he would talk about was how he couldn't wait for the fruit to come. He couldn't wait to eat them raw with the salt he had been saving under his bed in an old matchbox. I told him salt wasn't being rationed yet in the com, but he didn't care. He said it was part of the process. He was interesting for a 7 year old.

Pauolo's plants haven't been looking so good. Maybe it is the dirt? Lately he had been looking rather sad when he approached his tiny plot. Last week he began singing to the little plants, willing them to produce tomatoes for him. I can't wait to see Pauolo today. What Frank woke me up for was amazing. Pauolo has tomatoes, I think he might cry.
