Family Gardens Under Seige

Food Pirates Use RFCs to Pillage Local Produce Gardens
Neal Gorenflo

As many families do these days, we planted a garden in the Spring.  We carefully nutured this garden for months, and at the peak of harvest, it was raided by stealth robotic food collectors (RFCs) from a bordering autonomous political unit (APUs).These food pirates not only reaped most of our harvest but left a message inviting us to enter a relationship with them.  If we act now, we can hire them for protection at an economy rate and recieve a rebate consisting of 20% of our own food back.  If we subscribe to their "services" later, the price will be dramatically higher and we may get no food back.We are meeting our neighbors tomorrow to develop a plan, though it seems likely we'll knuckle under as we need our garden produce to maintain a health level of caloricintake and we currently have no way to defend against RFCs.We may need to ally ourselves with other threatened APUs to create greater security through collective action.Does anyone have experience dealing with food pirates?  Suggestions welcomed.

RFCs are cheap, but so are online plans for scramblers. These localized EMP generators will burn out their electronics, you just have to make sure you don't have any vulnerable electronics in range. As for detecting them, they may be sensor invisible, but human guards will work. Honestly, I feel you should find others who have also been victimized by this APU. Find them and band together. Then I'd hit them hard while before they really get strong, and before you start to get hungry. Take your food back.

Fortunately I haven't run into this problem yet, but it's only a matter of time. The food-looters (fooders) in my area are becoming bolder and more dangerous. One of my acquaintances a couple miles away had to go back home one morning because he forgot his work badge and interrupted a group of 6 fooders going through his house. He tried to fight them off, but failed. They not only took his life, but now are squatting in his house. I just hope they keep on moving to the East and don't take notice of my small plot.

Nope, scramblers dont work. The new drones can work without teleoperation and you can even operate them on tightbeam control. EMP guns have a range of a few meters, so I wouldn't put my money on them plus they are illegal. Many cops will assume the worst if you own EMPS. Worse still, it is not all that difficult to harden drones against EMP. This is a battle you can't win - the only solution is putting people in guard positions around your crops all bloody night.

The solution to drones uses, in any capacity, will be a rabid arms race of dronification and an evolution in ever changing drone designs. This will get out of hand very quickly.
