Flag Mountain: Flagship Community

A Blueprint for Survival
TaralynnRay

Flag Mountain, for all the challenges it faces, is growing and learning to thrive.  And precisely because we have been forced to work out solutions and overcome challenges, we can provide the world with a greater service than we ever thought possible.  Rather than simply trying to preserve our own little corner of the world, we would like to fulfill our obligation of sharing in the responsibility of inclusive community.  In this sense, we mean the world community.

Henceforth, we will be treating Flag Mountain as a prototype, a blueprint if you will.  Our goal is to create a veritable instructions manual for start-up communities.  We will provide sample instructions for agriculture, herding, security, medical care, community building—in short, the many and varied aspects of collective, inclusive survival.  Though we will not create satellite communities, we will be a deliberate example. We will strive to understand the ever-changing issues we are facing and come up with the most innovative and efficient solutions.

In the long run, we would like to be able to provide Key Citizens to start-up communities, like guides for those who are just starting down the path we chose long ago out of necessity.  In this way we hope to encourage the formation of other communities that foster and integrate refugees in a sustainable way.  With each community we encourage, we hope to save and improve the lives of countless displaced persons.  We consider this obligation to other communities as part of “inclusive community.”  Around Flag Mountain we like to say that without my neighbors I may survive, but with my neighbors I can thrive.  Well, today we would like to make every struggling citizen of this world our neighbor.  And we shall thrive together.

This is so much like the Shakers (minus the bombastic religiosity) who have a historically preserved village near where I live - it's sorta freaky. Way to GO Flag Mountaineers
