After the fences fell-B2B group formed

In itself watching the suburbia fences come down one plank at a time was a life altering moment. The typical squared yards hidden from other views, the perspective of vastness compared to compactness, and the ease of chatting with your neighbors was an added bonus. I can look out my patio window and see beyond rows of 4 x 8s and I can breathe for the first time in a very long while.

At this point there are eight neighbors (21 collectively) participating in this pilot program. However, in a neighborhood of 500 houses, the word is spreading fast.  The original eight houses sit four on each side, the backyards facing each other.

We have started building the mortar and tension beds, which have proven harder than first imagined with the lack of tools and knowledge on the subject. But there is a group of five who are working diligently to construct the beds by repurposing the fence planks.

Collectively, our group, now known as the B2B (Back 2 Basics), realized that there is much more that we need to do to make this work.

Here is the second part of the plan:

Make our garages community spaces. There is a lot of wasted space and energy in the suburbia garage. We have three-3 car garages and five 2-car garages and only eight cars.

Three-car garage #1-reserved for cars

Three-car garage #2-reserved for cars

Three-car garage #3-reserved for cars (1 extra space)

Two-car garage #1-the tool shed

Two-car garage #1-the canning area

Two-car garage #1-the drying area

Two-car garage #1-the storing area

Two-car garage #1-the greenhouse area

We are writing a charter for this initial phase so those participating have legal claim on the inventory and the products. In the charter, if one of the team members decides to move or leave the group, the charter has the first option to buy out the member. This buy out option is based upon the collateral of each item whether tools, food, dirt, or space.  We have voted in one member of our team as Accountant, to oversee this process.

As we continue our work on this idea, it seems like more opportunities are making themselves known.  We continue to trek into the unknown hoping to unearth a plan that will help the world feed the world.
