  • How this superstruct works

    • We all know that these are dark times, and we have no interest in pretending otherwise.  I and everyone else on Superstruct is engaged in trying to address the challenges of our times, but there is another important side to life - that of celebration.

      This Superstruct was inspired by a Superstruct story I read today by user PJ2019 (see below).  It is basically her sharing a slice of her happy life with her spouse in Pasadena, CA and it warmed my heart.  But she spoke of him feeling reluctant to smile out of his knowledge of all the suffering happening in the world, and that upset me.  I can understand his motivation, but I believe it is misplaced.

      There is great suffering all around us, but I for one don't want to see the happy denying their joy any more than I would want to see the able-bodied limping in front of the lame.  It is great succour to me to know that there are still people joyously in love in this world - isn't that what we're battling for in the end?

      So this Superstructure wants to turn things on its head.  Rather than the happy being saddened by the suffering of others, let's bring joy to the lives of the sad by reminding them that this can still be a beautiful world.

      I think we have evolved beyond the point of schadenfreude and sour grapes now, and can delight in the happiness of others, while striving to bring that happiness to more of our world.

      Join this Superstruct if you agree, or want to make it so.
