Starting a superstructure is only the beginning. The real task is envisioning what it can do, how it will work, and who you need to work with. If you're not a member, consider joining now. If you are a member, be bold, jump in, and use the superstructure to start organizing for survival. Edit it, add to the vision, and make it real, online and off. And don't forget to rave.

  • Who We Need
We need a body of scientists, political scholars, media experts, and, above all, information scientists and game theory experts to keep the evaluation system accurate. We need infrastructure experts - coders, builders - to create a secure, super-fast system, and designers to make it work on as many kinds of news outlets as possible. Ethical PR professionals would be necessary to get the system accepted, keep the system above reproach and maintain public awareness.
  • How to join
Tell us: How are you equipped to ensure we can believe what we read?
  • Mission
A strictly non-partisan body of scientists, political scholars and veteran journalists evaluate news stories and assign a simple accuracy rating. Think of an aggregator like Rotten Tomatoes or Reddit, only with all the evaluation done by experts, like Snopes or Media Matters. Any story carried by any news outlet can display a VRS rating - those that don't, may have something to hide. (And their stories will be evaluated mercilessly on our own outlets regardless.)
  • What we can accomplish
    • ...establish clear lines of information exchange, encourage informed decision-making, erase a political culture built on "selective hearing" (I only hear the facts I want to be true). With VRS ratings, we can create a shared language between liberals, conservatives, progressives and libertarians. Consensus is only possible when parties can agree on fundamental facts. This establishes what those fundamental facts are.

      1. How do you go about finding a "strictly non-partisan panel"? Rating system is my first thought, which is subject to ideological griefing and we\'re right back to where we started.

      Collaboration

You share some ideals and possible technical hurdles with Trustnet (struct #145). Would you care to share data or otherwise collaborate on the implementation of our respective structures?
