Starting a superstructure is only the beginning. The real task is envisioning what it can do, how it will work, and who you need to work with. If you're not a member, consider joining now. If you are a member, be bold, jump in, and use the superstructure to start organizing for survival. Edit it, add to the vision, and make it real, online and off. And don't forget to rave.

  • Who We Need
We need museum visitors and educators. People who understand the importance of museums and can suggest methods to maintain the relevance of museums as well as suggestions to boost visitation. People who understand public health and safety concerns.
  • How to join
  • Mission

With the rapid spread of ReDS and the rising cost of transportation, museum visitation has decreased, resulting in a generation of children who are missing the museum field trip experience. Visitation has also decreased as the result of restricted and irregular hours due to power shortages. We need to create a new way to bring museums to the public.

How can museums maintain a web presence during a time concerned with griefing?

    How do museums maintain relevancy?

What are creative ways to get people to museums, or museums to people, that help reduce energy cost

How can museums provide a safe, healthy environment in a period of epidemic disease?

Brought to you by the Center for the Future of Museums, an initiative of the American Association of Museums.

  • What we can accomplish
    • Museum resources are more important than ever! We need access to the information and inspiration they provide. They are one of the few common spaces we have left for uncensored exchange of information, airing of views, and civil dialog between people of opposing viewpoints. We can't let fear and disruption take this away from us! Let's find ways to make sure they remain safe places for assembly, and to reassure people that this is true. We can't let the high price of gas deprive our kids of awesome experiences that can fire their imaginations and fuel their ambitions.

With schools frequently being closed due to quarantine, museums can be sites for citizen-based public classrooms and home schooling.

With online news outlets being hacked and griefed, museums can be sites for posting and discussion of daily events on the local, national and global stage.

So come on! Let's create transportation pools to shuttle families to museums on weekends. Do you have an anachronistic van or SUV! Mitigate your guilt by putting it to good use. Even better, form a bicycle brigade to escort kids to the zoo or natural history museum after school and on weekends.

Are you generating power and feeding it back to the grid? On your Energy Provision Allocation Form (EPAF), designate museums as preferred recipients of discretionary power.

  • How this superstruct works
    • Contribute your solutions to these challenges, and pose new questions using this wiki document (copy and paste the URL into your browser) http://superstruct.wikia.com/wiki/Visitation

Try out some of these ideas yourself! Start a "weekend museum carpool shuttle" with your neighbors. Offer to lead a group of your children's friends and classmates on an outing to the zoo, botanic garden, science center, children's museum on the weekend. Post your story about this trip to the Superstruct site.

  • Other information
  • Discuss this superstructure
    • Are there ways we can work with local communities to design "mobile museums" that are relevant to these local communities, provide secure access to museum materials and artifacts, and, most importantly, are self-powwered via photovoltaics and human power?
