Starting a superstructure is only the beginning. The real task is envisioning what it can do, how it will work, and who you need to work with. If you're not a member, consider joining now. If you are a member, be bold, jump in, and use the superstructure to start organizing for survival. Edit it, add to the vision, and make it real, online and off. And don't forget to rave.

  • Who We Need
Programmers, biometric specialists, social networking engineers, public policy wonks, anyone who believes in distributed identity.
  • How to join

Describe an interaction you had where you needed to validate your identity to someone who wasn't your government.

Outline a problem with, or propose a solution for, open source identity.

  • Mission

The OpenID project is dedicated to bringing open-source, global, non-governmental identity confirmation to people everywhere.  Our goal is to design an open-source algorithm that will correlate mesh-to-mesh identity with biometric information to not only confirm identification but provide historical information and a generalized social confidence index. We are working to build a platform for both some kind of portable identity card or key, as well as readers, the designs of which must be easily copied, shared, and duplicated.  The physical objects, also, must be able to be built with a minimum of technical know-how or difficulty.

The OpenID project would be voluntary opt-in, but we could use it to track population migrations,  target medical attention, and confirm or validate personal identity information.

We believe that the first step to throwing off centralized authoritarian control is the creation of a grass-roots, open-source, opt-in identity system.  We realize that open access to these tools lends itself quickly to issues of spoofing and theft, but we are committed to the goals of transparency, and the ideal of cross-culture, cross-boundary communication.

  • What we can accomplish
    • We can use new advances in biotechnology to build more comprehensive biometric scans to more concretely and confidently identify individuals.  We can use powerful search algorhithms to scan and collate publicly accessible data from a person\'s online presence and build a profile of their connections in the mesh.  We can teach people to build easy-to-assemble readers for this information, and we can put it all online, free, open, and accessible.
  • How this superstruct works
  • Other information
    • I\'ve been thinking about biometrics, and especially about taking eigenstates from living brains.  The problem with OpenSource ID is that it\'s easy to spoof.  But what if you could take a picture of someone\'s brain, and match that to a held state, within certain variable parameters.  Are brainstates individual, like fingerprints?  Can we calibrate a machine to take a picture of a brain-state that would be reproducible by the subject, but not reproducible by another person?

How good is our imaging technology?  Brainy people!  Help me!

  • Discuss this superstructure
    • I am the founder of ReDS Adoption Network.  I need help creating a streamlined adoption process.  The current process requires screening of potential adoptive parents using archived documents, fingerprinting, "background" checks, etc.  I am hoping your 'struct could help create this process.  It should not have to take a year or more to adopt children orphaned by ReDS.
